Answer: It will not effect your eligibility, but it may be considered an offset to your statutory benefit. If there is not a spot to put this information on the disability form, I would recommend contacting EDD to confirm. Is there a way to collect short term disability during pregnancy if your office insurance does not provide it?

Question: I was really counting on this during my pregnancy and I just found out today that we only have health and life insurance. I was wondering if there were any other outside companies that provide it.

Answer: yes there are outside insurance companies you could purchas a policy from but if you are already pregnant you are unlikely to get a policy or to have a policy pay out benefits since it'll be viewed as a preexisting condition. However, you should research what your state and local city offers for public assistance - there are many municipalities that have special programs to help uninsured pregnant women get proper prenatal care. Or, if you are not yet pregnant, you could look to purchase private short-term disability insurance before you become pregnant. Good luck!
