Disability Insurance PregnancyForum - Questions & Answerstaking vacation pay after applying pregnancy disability insurance?Question: After applying pregnancy disability insurance, there will be 8 days before I receive the insurance check. May I take vacation pay in these 8 days? Will it make me not qualified for receiving pregnancy disability insurance? Thanks.Answer: If your company allows it, you can. ![]() insurance settlement and disability insurance due to pregnancy?Question: I am currently receiving a check every month from my mom's car accident settlement, but now i have to take maternity leave because I am pregnant. Will this affect my eligibility for the disability insurance? and where on the EDD form do i report this income?Answer: It will not effect your eligibility, but it may be considered an offset to your statutory benefit. If there is not a spot to put this information on the disability form, I would recommend contacting EDD to confirm. Since the disability and insurance payments are for non-related things, I would assume it will not be an offset. Double check with them though to make sure. www.edd.ca.gov/Disability Good luck! ![]() How can I get an individual short term disability insurance for my future pregnancy?Question:Answer: The coverage you want is available only through your employer. You would pay the premium yourself by payroll deduction. Just ask your employer to make the option available. There is no direct cost to your employer to do this for you. You would get an individual policy which is portable. Which means you can keep the policy if you leave your employer. There will be a 9 month exclusion for normal delivery. As long as your pregnancy starts a few months after the policy effective date, you should delivery outside of the exclusion period. Your benefit for a c-section delivery may be as much as 3X the premium you pay over 12 months (3 months before conception, plus 9 during pregnancy). So this is much better than a pre-payment plan as suggested by the other answer. You will also be covered in case pregnancy complications cause you to miss work before your delivery, if delivery complications extend your maternity leave, plus accidents and illnesses. Good luck. ![]()
