Pregnancy InterventionForum - Questions & AnswersMedical intervention and pregnancy?Question: Just throwing this out there for discussion and thoughts. Many anti-abortionist religious people believe God creates life, and thus, abortion is murder. However, a spontaneous abortion (miscarriage) is termed as God's will. How is it that any medically assisted pregnancy is not viewed the same way? Conversely, if a couple cannot conceive naturally, why is it acceptable by the same group of people who oppose abortion to allow interruption of God's will and allow intervention from modern medicine to assist a pregnancy, as opposed to letting God work his magic and to let nature decide?Answer: Because being anti abortion isn't all ways linked to religious views, for some people, it's a moral issue. God doesn't exist. ![]() Does an intervention-free pregnancy exist anymore?Question: I'm not trying to be sarcastic or mean-spirited, honestly. But I'm wondering by reading people's comments if everyone is induced anymore - no one is allowed to go past their due date, it seems. The average pregnancy ends at 40 weeks, regardless of what the medical books say. It also seems like everyone has multiple ultrasounds even though there are really no medical conditions to warrant it. It seems like fewer women are concerned about the higher rate of c-sections that seem to be caused, in part, by failed inductions or doctors who are just in too much of a hurry to deliver that sleep4you.com/sleep.php/84/baby.html'>baby, regardless. It seems like no one questions anything anymore and just does what the doctor says. I feel like obstetrics has changed pregnancy into an illness rather than the human body just doing what it already knows how to do, 99 percent of the time. I'm all for modern medicine when it concerns legitimate health concerns in pregnancy, but unless something is wrong I know if it were me I'd just like to "gestate in peace." What do you think? Violet - that's what I mean. Like when I say "home birth" or even "unassisted birth," or "midwife," what image comes to mind?Answer: YES! Go with a midwife! Hospitals and doctors use interventions more these days because they make the pregnancy go quicker and cost you more money. It's win-win for them. I am planning on going with a midwife, at home water-birth for my first child. Labor and delivery is not a medical emergency. It is a natural part of life and has been that was since the beginning of time. Midwives believe in this and a mother's choice above all else. I am convinced not to birth in a hospital. And I'm further convinced that the majority of women today are wusses because doctors have made them believe that they can't give birth on their own. ![]() who prefers to have a more medical intervention in their pregnancy and who doesn't?Question: who worries that something will go wrong and who prefers to have more medical intervention, who doesn't? personally i prefer to have more medical intervention because i would never forgive the hospital or myself if something went wrong and something could be have been done about it. i also think that pregnancy can be really risky. i read my leaflet on where to give birth in gloucestershire and it said 35% of women giving birth in a midwife run unit or at home had to be taken to hospital by ambulance because of a sudden complication. people could argue that women have been having sleep4you.com/sleep.php/83/babies.html'>babies for thousands of years, but many years ago and in third world countries where women gave birth or had sleep4you.com/sleep.php/83/babies.html'>babies with no medical intervention the rate of sleep4you.com/sleep.php/83/babies.html'>babies and women dying was higher. my mother and i would have died without the hospital and my nephew and younger brother would have, too and my partner would also not be here. i also know one woman who went through her whole pregnancy without blood tests or ultrasounds and the sleep4you.com/sleep.php/84/baby.html'>baby was born with lots of health problems and died. now i'm really scared. i respect women's decision to have home births but i can't bring myself to understand why. i'm sure many turn out fine, but i would really stress that that wasn't going to be the case. i hate taking risks and i try to avoid them best i can. i agree that feeling comfortable and safe is very important. i suppose if the woman was stressed it would make things more complicated, matter where she was. still, there are no doctors etc at home and i would be really scared. doodlest... you say you object to it and i don't think that's fair. if someone is frightened it can complicate things in itself. i know that first hand.Answer: I am having my first baby at a birthing unit, hopefully anyway. There are loads of different surveys, all say totally different things. I read that people who have their baby at home or in a birthing unit are less likely to need medical intervention. Also there are lots of different reasons people would have been taken to hospital. Could have been the mother got too tired, couldn't cope with pain, placenta did not come out, or of course could have been something serious. Its all personal choice, people should have their baby where they feel most comfortable and safe. Good luck, hope you have a positive labour. ![]()
