Getting Pregnant While On The Pill

Forum - Questions & Answers

What are the chances of getting pregnant while on pill, and using condoms with spermicidal lubricant.?

Question: My boyfriend and I have been having sex for a couple of months now. We're in a stable relationship so please don't give me any lectures. I was just curious what would be the chances of getting pregnant if I take the pill every night around the same time, and we use condoms that have a spermicidal lubricant?

Answer: I am glad to confirm that you are using the most effective modern contraception called dual contraception (read below). You have almost zero chances for pregnancy if you will continue pills and if your boyfriend follow all instructions for condoms (see below). Thanks to your dual contraception you are protecting yourself from unwanted pregnancy as well as from sexually transmitted infections.

What are my chances of getting pregnant while on the pill?

Question: I'm a little nervous about getting pregnant while on the pill. I know mine are pretty strong, but I'm terrible at taking them properly. Does anyone know about the shot or the patch and if they're easier to live with?

Answer: I would say if the pill you are taking it correct for your body type and you take the pill regularly (on time) then you are pretty safe. However, if you don't take it regularly then you are probably better off switching to the patch or something else like the NuvaRing. I have heard that the patch is easy but if you decide to go with the patch make sure you are fully aware of all the side effects associated with it. I would recommend talking to your doctor and getting his/her advice.

What are the odds of getting pregnant while on the pill?

Question: What are the odds of getting pregnant while taking the pill. Is it 99% effective? 95% effective?

Answer: The information claims that the pill is 99% effective when taken correctly. That means no missed doses and that it's taken at the same time every day. There are things that can interfere with the effectiveness of the pill such as~~~alcohol, certain prescriptions including antibiotics and pain medications, the flu and other illnesses especially if you're not able to keep the pill down. Many times people don't take these factors into consideration when they say "oh it doesn't work~~I got pregnant!". Guess what? So did I~~TWICE. The first time I was planning on trying to get pregnant when I finished the pack anyway so I took the remainder of it at odd times. I never skipped doses but I didn't take them at the proper time either. A few weeks later (before I was late for my period) I tested positive for pregnancy. My second time getting pregnant on the pill I had just broken my wrist and was on Tylenol #3 for pain. That was enough to mess with the pill and I was pregnant. I don't know of anyone off the top of my head that has gotten pregnant while on the pill when they take it as directed and don't have any outside interference. As an added note, I've been on the pill for 12-13 years (not including the years I was pregnant of course!) and those were my only 2 pregnancies EVER while on the pill.
